A fabulous lodge, the very best in Mindo.
Las Terrazas definitely deserves its 5-stars . Located just about a kilometer of so out of Mindo, it has a lovely quiet atmosphere. A fairly new, very modern faciity, it is run by a brother and sister from the Canary Islands (Spain). They have brought European stylishness to Mindo. Each room is separate cabana with a deck and an elegant bath, so you don't hear your neighbors at all. Our had a double-size Jacuzzi, which really appreciated after a long day of birding. They can create any type of all-inclusive package you want. The furnishings and linens are first-class. The lodge only has five cabins, so you have a great deal of individual attention. If you go to Mindo, you should definitely book here. And I highly recommend going to Mindo if you have any interest in birding. You can also go on hikes, go tubing, zip-lining or visit a butterfly exhibit (which has a very nice restaurant). Our stay included 2.5 days with Danny, an incredible bird guide. I recorded over 100 species (and I know a missed some) and we are fairly novice birders. We also had excellent massages in our room on our half day of rest. They arranged a driver to pick us up from our airport hotel and to take us to Quito. (Check out Casa El Eden in Quito). The food was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble. Anna drove us to town one evening when we wanted to see a bit of the village and even did laundry for use before our Galapagos trip. The cabanas are on a hill with lovely views of the valley and there are steps involved, so it not really designed for handicapped access. However, our luggage was carried up and down to room. We loved our time there and would love to return.
Mind-blowing Mindo/Birding Bliss.
We just returned from at Las Terrazas de Dana for 5 nights as part of a birding package. It was fantastic. The rooms at the Lodge are large, private and very comfortable, with a roomy deck and hot tub. The meals were terrific (faves were local trout with garlic and fettucine Bolognese), with cocktails and fresh juices always available. But the game-changers here are the incredible personalized service and attention David and his sister Ana provide. He created a terrific itinerary of birding adventures in different parts of the cloud forest and beyond with the best birding guide, Danny, we have had the pleasure to work with. Up before dawn most days, we enjoyed lots of unique and beautiful scenery in the woods and mountains, and notably Antisana Reserve; we also managed to tack on tours of Quetzal Chocolate, the Mariposaria, and Orchid Farm in Mindo. Cock-of-the-Rock, Golden Quetzal, the cave of the oilbird, the Andean Condor, and more hummingbirds than we thought possible were all part of the experience. Bows to David and Ana and Danny. This is the real deal. Highest recommendation.
